Flick, flick, flick (2009)
A piece exploring the ubiquity and impact of the iPod and the portable media revolution. The work was created by integrating interview material, both found and conducted for the project, with recordings from randomly skipped selections of my mp3 player. The interviews and music were then composed to compliment each others' narratives.
The title is an allusion to a colloquialism used to indicate the act of impatiently 'flicking' to the next track in shuffle mode.
The audio quality here is created to have its own say about the subject matter, as much of it is deliberately poor mp3 quality. The piece is mixed to be heard in headphones as per common iPod usage (the interview material is less clear through speakers).
